6 Teas For Diarrhea

Cranberry, cinnamon, tormentila or dried peppermint and raspberry teas are some examples of excellent natural home remedies that can be used to relieve diarrhea and intestinal cramps. 

However, a doctor should be consulted when diarrhea is severe and arises more than 3 times a day; in this case, no tea, plant or food that slows intestinal transit should be consumed, as diarrhea may be caused by some virus or bacteria that needs to be eliminated from the body.

1. Cranberry berry tea

  • 150 ml of boiling water.

  • 1 whole or crushed cinnamon stick;
  • 1 cup of water.

    Bring the water to a boil and add the cinnamon stick, let it boil for 5 minutes. Then, turn off the heat and let the mixture stand for 10 to 15 minutes. 

    This tea should be drunk still hot 2 to 3 times a day, before meals. 

    3. Yarrow tea

    The tea of this plant has properties that help in the treatment of various digestive disorders, relieving gas, intestinal spasms and diarrhea. To prepare this tea, the following is necessary:


  • 2 to 4 tea spoons of dried yarrow flowers and leaves;
  • 150 ml of boiling water.

    Place the yarrow flowers and leaves in a cup and add the hot water. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain before drinking. 

    Drink this tea 3 to 4 times a day, according to need and symptoms felt. 

    4. Tormentila tea

    This tea possesses properties that treat and soothe intestinal colic and diarrhea, and dried or fresh roots of the plant can be used to prepare it as described below:


  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of dried or fresh roots of tormentila
  • 150 ml of boiling water
  • Mode of preparation

    Place the roots of the plant in a cup and add the boiling water. Then cover and let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes, then strain and drink. This tea should be taken 3 to 4 times a day, according to need. 

    5. Peppermint and dried raspberry tea

    This tea is composed of a mixture of medicinal plants that help to expel gases, dry secretions, soothe intestinal spasms and relieve intestinal inflammation. To prepare this tea, the following is required:


  • 2 teaspoons dried peppermint;
  • 2 teaspoons dried raspberry leaf;
  • 2 teaspoons catnip;
  • 500 ml boiling water.

    Make a mixture with the dried herbs and add the boiling water. Then cover and let steep for 15 minutes before serving. Ideally, drink a cup of this tea every hour, according to the symptoms felt and the need. 

    6. Guava leaves tea

    Both the manzanilla as guava leaves (guava tree) have antispasmodic properties, which reduce bowel contractions and help to retain stool longer, and can be used in cases of diarrhea that have a duration of more than 3 days and under medical guidance. 


  • 1 handful of chamomile flower;
  • 10 guava leaves;
  • 250 ml of water.

    Place the ingredients in a pot and boil for about 15 minutes over low heat. Turn off the heat, cover the pot and wait until lukewarm. Strain and drink in small sips several times during the day.
